BasiGo, the esteemed Kenyan-based electric bus manufacturer, is expanding its reach to Rwanda, bringing its cutting-edge electric buses to the country’s transportation landscape. In partnership with AC Mobility, Rwanda’s leading provider of automated fare collection systems, BasiGo Rwanda Ltd. aims to deliver 200 electric buses to Kigali transport operators by the end of 2024. The innovative Pay-As-You-Drive financing model will be employed, allowing bus owners to purchase the electric buses while paying a daily subscription fee covering battery leasing, charging, and maintenance costs. This partnership marks a significant step towards electrified public transport in Rwanda, fostering sustainability and reducing air pollution and CO2 emissions.
CEO and Co-founder of BasiGo, Jit Bhattacharya, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, praising Rwanda’s supportive ecosystem for e-mobility and the potential impact of electric buses on bus operators’ fuel expenses and the environment.
