Equity bank was incorporated in the year 2014 due to the restructuring of Equity Group Holdings Limited. In November 2014, it operated as a licensed bank as well as a holding company for the subsidiaries.
The bank, later on, announced the intention of incorporating an owned subsidiary in which it will transfer Kenyan banking business and assets. The basis for re-organization into subsidiaries was to place the group in a better position to invest and develop the present and new business as part and parcel of its third segment of transformation.
The bank is licensed under Kenya Banking Act (chapter 488). It offers retail banking, micro-finance and other correlated services. The subsidiaries of Equity Bank are in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan.
