Taps Run Dry In Some Parts Of Soshanguve: City Of Tshwane Warns It Could Get Worse

Pretoria – The City of Tshwane has warned that extra faucets in Soshanguve may run dry until residents use out there water sparingly.

“The Soshanguve L Reservoirs are continuing to experience excessively high water consumption, which is likely to lead to a larger part of Soshanguve facing a risk of having no water in the coming days,” the City warned on the weekend.

“Despite having a adequate provide from the Rand Water provide line, the reservoirs’ ranges are unable to go above 30%.

“These critically low levels are making it unsafe for the city technicians to pump water to the Soshanguve L Tower zone, which supplies Block L, M, K, and LKK schools and a clinic.”

The City mentioned these areas have been with out water since Friday, 1 August 2025, “due to the low water levels in the Soshanguve L Reservoirs”.

In an announcement on Sunday, 3 August 2025, the City mentioned: “Yesterday, the team substantially restricted the reservoirs’ outlet flow to support the reservoirs’ recovery process; however, the levels only increased by 8% as of this morning.”

The City added: “To counteract this continued essential drop, the town technicians may be pressured to implement aggressive measures, which embody a short lived shutdown of provide to the better Soshanguve space to permit the reservoir to get better sufficiently to allow pumping to the Tower zone.

“These drastic measures can be avoided if customers who are supplied by the Soshanguve L Reservoirs can reduce consumption to allow for the reservoirs’ levels to increase to at least 60%.”

The City is looking on Soshanguve residents who nonetheless have entry to water to make use of it sparingly to allow the town to renew water provide to the affected areas.
