Judgment On 'Please Call Me' Case: ConCourt To Finally Rule On Makate Versus Vodacom

Johannesburg – The Constitutional Court has introduced that it’s going to challenge the long-awaited judgment on the high-stakes “Please Call Me” case between innovator Nkosana Makate and Vodacom, a subsidiary of British telecom large Vodafone.

In a submit on X, the Constitutional Court acknowledged: “Judgment to be handed down on 31 July 2025 at 10h00: Did the Supreme Court of Appeal disregard the true points earlier than it with the consequence that there was a complete failure of justice, in breach of the rule of regulation and the constitutional proper to a good listening to?”

The apex courtroom added: “Did the Supreme Court of Appeal act past its jurisdiction in setting apart and substituting the excessive courtroom’s order with its personal, within the absence of a cross-appeal?”

Vodacom is interesting a Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) determination that overturned its preliminary R47 million compensation provide, rejected by Makate in 2019, and ordered a brand new provide.

Makate is demanding R9.4 billion for his invention, which Vodacom has profited from since 2000.

The matter was heard on 21 November 2024.

It has taken the Constitutional Court eight months to finalise the judgment.
