DPP Approves Murder Charges Against OCS Talaam in Death of Albert Ojwang

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, has permitted homicide fees towards Central Police Station OCS Samson Talaam and 5 others in reference to the demise of blogger and instructor Albert Ojwang.

In a press release issued on Monday, June 23, the DPP stated that on June 10, 2025, he directed the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to research the circumstances surrounding the demise of Albert Omondi Ojwang.

Following the directive, IPOA submitted the inquiry file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on June 22, 2025, for perusal and authorized steering.

Mukhwana’s Shocking Revelations Against DIG Lagat

This comes after PC James Mukhwana revealed the position Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Eliud Lagat performed resulting in the demise of Albert Ojwang. 

Speaking in court docket on Monday, June 16, Mukhwana stated that DIG Lagat made orders by Central Police Station OCS Samson Talaam, for Ojwang to be disciplined.

DIG Lagat Steps Aside

Ojwang died in police custody on Sunday, June 8 — lower than 12 hours after arriving in Nairobi following his arrest.
