SGA Security introduces electric vehicles into fleet

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 31 – SGA Security has included electrical automobiles (EVs) into the fleet as a part of the corporate’s carbon footprint minimize measures.

The EVs, sourced from Electric Transits Africa, shall be deployed underneath its Security Alarm Response fleet.

“The deployment of those electrical automobiles is a pilot initiative, with plans to scale sooner or later as a part of a broader technique to shift in the direction of clear, energy-efficient mobility options throughout all SGA operations,” stated Electric Transits Africa co-founder and CEO Wout van Blommestein.

This comes at a time when personal and public companies within the nation are adopting EVs to scale back emissions amid international warming.

Already, Kenya Power has launched EVs into its fleet with plans to put in 45 EV charging stations by this yr.

In 2024, the variety of EVs in Kenya rose by 41.1 p.c in comparison with 2023 as a consequence of nationwide and personal sector efforts to decarbonise the transport sector, based on the Energy and Petroleum Authority (EPRA).

The transport sector accounts for roughly 25 p.c of the nation’s carbon dioxide emissions, which is the first greenhouse gasoline answerable for local weather change.

According to a report by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the transport sector in Nairobi alone contributes to about 60 p.c of town’s air air pollution.

“The integration of electrical automobiles into SGA Security’s fleet is a robust demonstration of how personal sector management can speed up the shift towards sustainable mobility and a cleaner, more healthy future for all,” stated UNEP Head of Sustainable Mobility Rob de Jong.
