UN Chief warns of ‘dangerous drift’ amid rising war, mistrust, and disinformation

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has warned of a “harmful drift” on the planet order, citing rising battle, eroding belief between nations, and the rise of disinformation as main threats to peace and democracy.

Despite these issues, he emphasised the enduring significance of the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act, calling for renewed dedication to sovereignty, territorial integrity, multilateralism, and worldwide legislation. The convention, hosted by Finland, marks the fiftieth anniversary of the landmark 1975 settlement that helped ease Cold War tensions between East and West.
