African entrepreneurs are getting a jump on the continent’s swiftly emerging digital ecosystems, but they also often face considerable marketing, funding and policy challenges.

The October 26-28 Ghana Digital Innovation Week held in Accra, addressed those challenges by bringing together tech and business leaders with policy advocates and academics, including professors of tech and machine learning.

George Saka, general manager of Think! Data Services Limited, a data solutions provider that guides African organizations through digital transformations, was supported by ITC to attend the event.

“It was really interesting. We shouldn’t just rely on tech people, we need to research to develop the technology necessary for our local markets and to solve the problems specific to Africa and its sub-regions,” Saka said.

Think! Data Services Limited helps African and other businesses to move from traditional to digital platforms. It offers data collection, data management, analytics and outsourcing services.

Saka said the Innovation Week opened the door to a number of business leads, noting that having participated in ITC’s Export Market Plan program for eight months prior to the event, he was well prepared to market his company.

“It was wonderful. One of the breakout sessions hosted by ITC was on how digital tools can be leveraged along the value chain of cocoa agribusiness and that is one of the flagship services we offer. So it was a great opportunity for us to explain what we can do,” Saka said.

Saka said Think! Data Services Limited also is engaging with a number of visitors interested in their Business Process Outsourcing and exam assessment e-marking systems.
