KPLC Meter Not Loading Tokens

This is a common error experienced by many prepaid customers.  In many cases, it occurs due to the following:

  • An error in the meter number you entered
  • The meter tariff may differ from the one programmed on your meter
  • The electricity credit token number entered into your meter is incorrect.

KPLC Token Rejected

Once in a while, you might encounter cases whereby your meter rejects the purchased electricity token.

In this case, a reject error message means that you currently can’t load the electricity tokens you purchased on your meter. This token issue is a result of several reasons.

Purchasing for the wrong Meter number

What this means is that you cannot load a token bought for meter Q on meter X. If you bought tokens for another meter number your meter will automatically reject that token.

You haven’t activated your meter account

Upon installing your new meter, you are required to activate it from KPLC. Without this activation, your meter won’t be able to load any tokens from your meter. To activate your meter, all you have to do is request an activation code from KPLC and load it in the format given to you before loading your token.

Change in your tariff plan

Every meter is categorized under a tariff plan. In case there is a directive to switch or change the rates in place, your meter will require to be configured to fit the new plan. To solve this, request for KCT from your distribution company and load it in the format given to you.

KPLC Balance Enquiry

There are various ways in which you can enquire about your KPLC Balance statement.

One is via the KPLC eBill which is an electronic service offered by KPLC that helps you to query electricity bills and manage your electricity account by checking balance and statements via email or SMS.

How to check KPLC electricity bill via SMS

It is important to note that this service is available to all Kenyan networks and is charged Ksh 5. Also, it is very crucial to enter the correct details and follow the procedure correctly to archive a positive response.

  • Open a new SMS message service.
  • Enter the message recipient as 95551
  • Enter the first digits of your account number in the message field for instance if your account number is 658279-11, enter 658279.
